Jochen Koenemann is Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and a professor in the Department of Combinatorics and Optimization. A highly respected researcher, Dr. Koenemann’s work lies at the intersection of theoretical computer science and operations research, focusing on optimization and its real-world applications. His work has addressed a wide range of complex problems across various domains. Notably, in collaboration with Professor Ricardo Fukasawa, he developed algorithms and planning tools that have been used to support life-saving cranial surgeries on children at SickKids Hospital in Toronto.
As the senior leader and administrator of the Faculty of Mathematics, Dr. Koenemann’s portfolio includes driving transformational change in teaching, research, and administration.
Research interests: Artificial intelligence, approximation algorithms, algorithmic game theory, combinatorial optimization.
