Bio/Research

Dr. Anamaria (Ana) Crisan is an Assistant Professor in the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science at the University of Waterloo, where she leads interdisciplinary research on human-centered artificial intelligence. Her research explores how artificial intelligence interacts with people, with a focus on building AI systems that are safe, productive, and meaningful for everyday use. Through her research group, the Insight Lab, Dr. Crisan and her team develop techniques, tools, and interfaces that make AI systems more interpretable, steerable, and auditable by human collaborators, advancing a human-centric approach to AI that emphasizes interaction, transparency, and responsible design. Her award-winning research appear has been recognized for advancing inclusive, human-focused data analysis practices.

Her career spans academia, industry, and government research roles, with contributions that bridge cutting-edge technical innovation and real-world impact.

Research interests: Human-centered Artificial Intelligence, Responsible AI Development, Data Science, Data Visualization, Human-AI Collaborative Decision Making.
